Sometimes, inspiration for a new project strikes through the process of the original one. During the course of a major cloud migration, our team noticed that the ability of the agency’s employees to print their documents was time consuming and inefficient. Staff had to send the print job to a printer shared by their unit. Because of the sensitive nature of the information, they had to logout of their terminal, immediately go to the printer and stand next to it to get their documents, and when they returned to their desks, they had to log back in. The entire process resulted in accumulated hours of wasted time for each employee, each week. Morale suffered as staff became increasingly disgruntled with the system and fell behind in their workload. While continuing to complete the initial project that brought us to the site, RSDC proposed a solution that would eliminate the frustration and waste. Instead of printing documents in the office, our system sent them to a central printing house. This option meant that staff could hit the print button and continue on with their work, the client information remained safe, and mailing times became more reliable. RSDC fixed a problem the client hadn’t identified, adding unexpected value that continues to last for the long-term.
